If you really want to set on the jury, the less you know about the case the better your chances are. The more you know, the more bias you become. And when that happens you are no longer a suitable choice. I get called about 1 a year, but have not ever had to serve. The cases I have been called for seem to end up with tha lawyers settling their issues, before it goes to the grand courts. The process of what you need to know will be made clear from the minute you are addressed until you are released. Interesting process. But I always wanted to a litigator!

The most important thing to know is "How to avoid jury duty".
1 - tell them upfront you are not in favor of the death penalty, except in the case of double parking and spiting on the sidewalk.
2 - mention pistols and counting off 20 paces, turning and firing - just as a way to save on court costs of course.
3 - twitch and mutter to yourself "not now, not now!".
4 - look into your jacket pocket when they aren't talking to you and giggle.
5 - bring a copy of Mein Kampf... laugh out loud occasionally and wipe tears of laughter out of your eyes.
6 - Stare at other jurors. Look away suddenly when they look at you.
7 - Whistle... Loudly.
8 - Stand up, yawn and stretch midway through the opening statements.
9 - Do the "nod and suddenly jerk awake" thing when the judge is giving you instructions.
With any luck you will be home within 5 minutes with that "Please don't ever try to report to jury duty for the rest of your life" note firmly in hand.

bring a book or something to do you could be waiting for awhile I waited 5 hours before even being taken in to a case. If you get a good case with the lawyers have to ask you questions just say you have had problems with doctors or co workers or your spouse or however the two people are related in the case they are trying to handle and you hate everyone an think everyone should go to jail even for minor crimes you'll be out quicker unless you wanna be on a jury in which case just answer with the truth an have fun

Be prepared to be bored. But don't dare -look- like your bored, or the judge may fine you for contempt of court. Take a pen/pad and take notes, or doodle and look like your taking notes, it helps pass the time. Odds ar you won't even end up on a jury, more people are called as back-up, or are excused during jury selection, than ever actually sit thru a trial. Good luck, I hope you dodge the bullet.

#1.) Innocent until PROVEN guilty. Just because the person is accused of something doesn't automatically mean they did it- that's why there's a jury- to determine if the person is guilty or not.
#2.) It doesn't matter which side has more witnesses- it only matters what the witnesses have to say.

I have been called three times, two for county and one for Federal. The main thing to do is show up! You may be dismissed or not picked for the jury and was my case all three times. Good luck.

just go and answer all of the questions truthfully. There is many reasons for a lawyer not to pick you or to pick you so you have a chance either way. Just bring something to do because there is a lot of waiting around and you will get bored.

listen, hun, just show up and do as you are instructed...
i've had a couple of courses of jury duty.
they are really great glimpses at life, and at yourself. show up, honor the judge, and do what he says.
its really cool. i took a notepad once, and that was bad., just honor the system as the judge calls it. after all, he's paid a LOT of dues to sit in that chair; he knows the deal.
