I am an Artist My self NO degree, and I can make pretty good under the table money, if i had a degree on it i think id go alot further, but my passion lies on helping people out, psy .so i went a diferent route, Art has broad fields, Graphic design Draftin, Muralist, Teaching at all grade levels even University, Marketing ,Advertising, Ect the list is endless, depending were her talents lie , her inspirations and styles, Culture would be boring without art, it is all around you how far your friend goes it depends on her and the field she follows.

You should really support your freind. If she is talented enough to major in art and that is her passion then she should by all means pursue her goal. You should never assume that art major are failures. Plenty of people are very successful in a art career there is a lot to do like: set design, movie production, photography, and a lot more you can do.

That's nonsense. A trained artist with talent is hard to find and generally does well.
There are plenty of trained talentless artists and untrained mediocre artists. Neither of these do well.
The world needs good artists. Don't discourage your friend. My dad had artistic talent, was trained in art, bought a house, raised 5 kids, sold his art and taught art. He was fantastic, and we kids were always happy, well fed, and had clothes on our backs.
