How come pictures are available of US cities and there aren't of cities in other countries? I can see downtown D.C. but not downtown Dachau or downtown Nicaragua. I think it's spelled right.

I assume you're talking about satellite images here? The answer comes down to how many satellites are focussed on a particular place and which ones you have access to. I imagine there are satellites that take images of most places on the world (or that can be focussed on most places at least) but only the 'bigger' countries like the US will get heavy coverage from satellites that are publically accessible.
