We just bought a home and after we pulled down the wallpaper we found several spots near the baseboard where a cat apparently sprayed. It reaks to high Heaven and we are strapped for time before we need to put up our wood planks and carpet. Is there anything we can do without having to replace the wood?

There's this stuff called "Nature's Miracle". It will take the smell out of anything. Just put some in a spray bottle and have at it. You can find it at any pet store. Trust me, I have 4 cats.

There are products you can get from a pet store that will help with this, otherwise you can follow the tips from this website:

http://www.mountainmaids.com/House_Cleaning_Tips_2

" For urine odors on furniture, mattresses etc dampen and sprinkle borax on the spots-the borax should neutralize the odor and then clean it again with mild detergent

For new urine accidents, use either club soda or vinegar and pour it on spot

For wall to wall carpeting with backing, buy a hypodermic needle and fill it vinegar and inject the carpet to get to the backing and do it repeatedly. "

The "Sealent" mentioned by another person is called "KILZ" and is available at your paint store... it is a paint primer that will cover everything...

Good luck!

Try Simple Green. I had a male cat that even after he was neutered he sprayed. I used it to get the smell out of my couch and out of my carpet. There is no smell at all. Spray it on full strength and let it set for awhile. Then wash the wall. You might have to do it once of twice.

No no no. Do not try vinegar. I forget the name of it but it's in pet stores in a white bottle with red lettering. It has an enzyme in it that deodorizes the smell to humans. Beware, cats can still smell it no matter what you use, so it will still spray. But if it's for your nose, check it out. It works.

There is a sealant you can use to block the odor. My mother ran into a similar problem with her cat, when he kept missing his 'aim'. The sealant works.

Good luck!

Try painting it with Kilz primer that will seal it in and paint over that.

Vinegar is the best! It's also pretty inexpensive and doesn't stain.
