What does the phrase "this creature cannot be encountered" mean? Does it mean that it cannot be blocked?

Read the card again...

The card likely says "this creature cannot be countered" not "encountered". To best explain this you must understand the mechanics of how the game works. Each card played from your hand is considered a spell. If a spell (or creature spell in this case) cannot be countered, once you declare the card as being cast (casting cost paid), there is nothing that can prevent the creature from coming into play. There are other things that may trigger upon it coming into play that may destroy it or spells or effects that could be triggered to destroy it, but that's another matter.

agreed...there is no "can't be encountered" ability yet...:D you can submit ur ideas to WOC though hehe

cant be countered simply means this:
when u play it from your hand, your opponent play a Counter Spell targeting the spell you had just played. I mean of coz you opponent can play a counter spell targeting it not that it cant be targeted(now that's another story so I leave det to another time), just that when it comes to resolution of the STACK; the Counter Spell fizzles as it has NO valid target.. hmm am I right about this?

What say u all?

If you go to Wizards of the Coast website, you can find any and all rules for Magic: the Gathering. It has been around since about 1992.

For clarification, what is the card name?

If you mean that the text says "countered", then it means that no ability or spell may prevent you from summoning or activating that creature, spell, or ability.
