I was reading an article from New York Times where it says that it's proven that part of someone's happiness depends on their earnings, but is money what makes people happy?

How do people measure happiness?

Too little and you struggle to make ends meet, too much and you struggle to find satisfaction. Only whats in side yourself, not your pocket, can make you truly happy.

I think everyone measures happiness differently. I think if someone generally has a smile on their face and nice words for other people they are pretty happy. They can see the silver lining. When someone is always complaining, thinking others are nasty or putting things down, they usually, in my opinion, are not living the happiest of lives. Its grey clouds for them.

My glass is usually half full!

Here's my ans. in a way money does bring happiness. It's a quality of life issue, with money your can afford to live in a nice neighborhood. You can afford to shop at the best store and buy good food. What's more if you get sick you can afford good medical care. So wouldn't you agree having these things bring happiness into your life?

I think that $ only makes people superficially happy, but it can make people feel more secure also.Afterall,we do need it to survive. If you can make enough $ to survive, then you should have a little less stress in your life.It would mean that you have one less issue. But happiness is really what you make it. I try to look at the bright side of life and the blessings that I have. I try to appreciate all that life has given me.

I have been rich and I have been poor. I like rich better. Ha ha. Seriously, money does not buy happiness. It does, however, buy peace of mind. It is comforting beyond what one may think, to KNOW you can pretty much afford anything you want. It is a relief, not to worry in the slightest about paying your bills.

Yes Money makes me happy. It pays my bills keeps a roof over our heads and food on the table. With money I get to enjoy the things I love like football games, shopping, and many more. Money does not buy love and can not buy happiness but it can make you happy.

For me happiness is being contented with what you have.

Contentment is the measure of happiness. Not just for money, but with everything and everyone around you.

No, money facilitates some things that do make me happy, but by itself, money does not make any single person happy in my opinion.

not by money, which isn't everything. Having people who care about you and are willing to share this life with you are more important than money.
Money makes some things easier.

It's not the MONEY per se, it's the being out of debt, being able to pay bills, being able to provide for your loved ones. Those things make me happy, but in order to achieve them, I need money.
