Positions work differently for different people, the best I could suggest would be to lay with your back on the floor with your legs folded up on a chair positioned near your backside, then reach over your head and hold onto something firm.

Pills don't do anything, things such as painkillers simply numb the pain, great for immediate relief however in the long term it can mean the more pills you take the more you need, which brings on a whole new set of problems.

The best way to deal with menstrual cramping is to avoid it to begin with, excluding serious health problems such as endometriosis the vast majority of women can prevent cramps, it is just a matter of learning how and finding a method that works for you.

Here are some basic ideas for you to prevent and deal with cramps, much better than positions and pills;

• Take herbal teas, in particular; Raspberry leaf, Lemon balm, Black Haw, Blessed thistle, Camomile, Wild marjoram, Red raspberry, Wild strawberry, Valerian, Yarrow, Blue cohosh, and Dong quai.

• Don't use tampons, there are not only bad to vaginal health which can equate to menstrual problems but the expansion of the tampon into the cervix can cause pain, other options such as pads, free-flow or menstrual cups don't contribute to cramps in the same way as tampons.

• Avoid salty foods and alcohol as well as anything that may add to bloating such as curry or sodas. Dairy and caffeine can also contribute to menstrual cramps.

• Drink lots of water, and add lemon as a natural diuretic to decrease bloating.

• Eat more healthy food, such as more vegetables, but be sure to avoid soy products although healthy soy is notorious for causing menstrual problems.

• Take up yoga to help with breathing, relaxation and gentle exercise to ease off cramping.

• Essential oils such as lavender can aid in relaxation, but for menstrual cramp specific aid Clary Sage massaged into stomach can quickly relieve menstrual cramps.

• Try to keep a regular menstrual cycle, Evening Primrose oil can help a lot with this as well as menstrual problems themselves as a knock-on effect, addressing any menstrual or reproductive problems will insure vaginal/reproductive health so improving menstrual problems.

•Sex, during orgasm it is believed that a hormone which causes uterine contractions is released calls Oxytocin, which can help to push out menstrual material. The relaxation and improved circulation to the pelvic area after sex can also ease period pain.

•Heat or cold – most people say heat packs are good, you can get all sorts of really good reusable heat pads with lavender in that help a lot, but for some people cold packs work a whole lot better when applied to their stomach, so try them both and see which one helps you best.

•Acupressure/acupuncture can help a lot, although it might be too expensive for you to go to a therapist for this you may want to get yourself a basic book on acupressure/acupuncture to teach yourself some basics to help with your cramps.

•Cell-salts, these are a natural-mineral your body needs, so if you are lacking this can affect all sorts of things in your body, you can take these daily to help prevent cramps or take them when you get cramps upping the dose every 5-10 minutes until the pain goes away.

•Up your intake of magnesium, calcium, and potassium, also couple with zinc to help your body absorb these easier. These are all things needed by your body to help the uterus lining shed.

•Supplements, not just the ones mentioned above (magnesium, calcium, and potassium) but also Omega 3 & 6, Multi B with high B6 and B13, vitamin E is also a good anti-inflammatory.

•Good attitude, menstruation is not just about your body getting rid of waste uterus lining but also everything else from the month that it does not need - this includes bad emotions - so the more stressed you have been during your cycle the more problematic your period will be.

fill up a water bottle with hot water and out that on your stomach. it will help lots =] or what you could is wear a sweater with those full pockets (like an 'ae' or those 'hollister' ones) and just stick a warm water bottle in there and dont wear a shirt under the sweater. you could just be laying on your back ; watching tv, reading, or listenning to music or something. i find that pamprin & advil are the 2 BEST medicines for your pain. hope i helped :]

You can try lying on your side (doesn't matter which one) with a hot water bottle against your stomach. That usually helps me.

I usually just use Advil or Tylenol. Whatever I have in the house at the time.

You can also get some of those Therma Care heat pads. You can stick one of the patches in your back and it will give off heat for 8 hours. It really helps with the lower back pain.

I personally prefer to lie on my side with a hot water bottle against my stomach and then curl around a soft pillow with my knees pulled up. I also like to sit in my favorite rocking chair with the heating pad on my stomach. For me, Extra Strength Excedrin is my pain reliever of choice.

lets face it...MIDOL. It will help with period cramps a lot. And for laying down I lay on one side with my knees to my chest and holding a pillow for cushion. Excercising helps too. And if you're not on birth control I would highly suggest it. It makes period time shorter and reduces cramps :)

one of my girlfriends had really bad cramps and her doctor suggest to try masturbating because the muscle contractions caused by orgasm can help relax the cramped muscles.
