My ex dropped out of college after he got WoW and won't get a job until he " gets the chest piece for his Judgement armor or reaches grand marshial or *insert some obscure and insignificant achievement here*". Which - fyi - is why i broke up with him. My Boyfriend's brother will swear excesively and tell off his team mates when they wipe on Onixia or whatever run they're doing at the time and will argue with them for hours. When he gets drunk he'll say he doesn't need a girl and that he doesn't care if people make fun of him because playing WoW is what makes him happy and is what he wants to do. I play the game. I've a level 60 holy priest and a lvl 40 shadow and a few other alts, but never at any point in the game did i become so obsessed that i quit my job or stopped hanging out with my friends because of an endgame instance or double honor week in battle grounds. what's up with people taking this game like a life or death necesity?

Yes, there are some who take it way to far. I've heard of ppl playing for 3+ days striaght, passing out, recovering, then continue playing, etc. I enjoy playing, and have done so for a year and more, but I will never go so far as to play while seeing spots, losing my job, etc.

Anything pleasurable can be addictive - and modern Western culture encourages addictive behaviors. We've got multi-billion dollar industries that exist because people are made "happy" by their daily triple-cheeseburger and mega-movies sent direct to their cellphones.

WoW is just one of many things that people can get hooked on. It's just a damned good example because Blizzard put a lot of work into making it that way.

Yeah, some people take it way too seriously. They get pissy if someone else gets something they want, or won't act the way they think they should, or, or, or... It's like all the hells of high school drama all over again, but in an electronic format. Some people are able to ignore it, play the game, and live a life like normal people. But some, just like in high school, just get sucked into the morass of drama, and get stuck there.

Sorry to hear that things went sour for you.

It can be a type of escapism... you don't worry about real life while playing. And even though most people in the real world probably think you're nuts, the players in the game understand.

Another thing is it's something you become really good at and continue want to build on what you have to become better. This is what makes it really addicting.

Sad thing is 5 years from now when the game is outdated not even they will care about what they did in that game.

I personally, am addicted to World of Warcrack.

The MMO when done right can be as addicting as any drug, and I can't really explain why. While it is sometimes fun (endgame instances and PvP), but leveling and grinding are insanely tedious. But getting better gear/"pwning" harder is just....addicting.

I have 2 level 60s and a level 30, and I'm ashamed of it. But until another game catches my attention, or until I get to college, I know I'll be playing WoW almost every day.

i could believe the belief of having the Burning marketing campaign enlargement. With that there is lots of latest solo content you're able to do besides as a selection of of latest situations that are accessible in a pair of hours. there have been a selection of of updates and ameliorations interior the final 12 months. in case you purely have a pair of hours another day or so, you are able to desire to have not any difficulty enjoying and enjoying the sport interior the way you undergo in techniques it. With 2 point 60's it's going to be even much less stressful as you will continuously be waiting to swap between the two counting on how lots time you have at any given time. My hunter is point 70, my druid is point sixty two (no longer performed lots) my rogue is point fifty one, and my mage is approximately point 26. I in no way play for somewhat a selection hours at a time (with the occasional long consultation on a slow weekend) so I see no clarification why you are able to not come back to enjoying the sport.

Sounds like an addictive personality. You made the right move on dropping him.

It's a game....nothing more than that. If you drop your real life (like leaving college) to play a game, you are nothing short of doomed to end up in a really lame life.

(Yes, I play WoW)

People who play those games are kinda wierd, personally, I like short sessions of games, to take the edge off of work, ect. Those games you have to invest tons of hours into... waste of time.
