The Greeks and Socrates were the founders of western civilization thoughts. All philosophy could be traced to Socrates, including Hegel, Nietsche, Sartre, Camus, Beckett, etc. Socrates asked questions to anyone with opinions thus getting on some people's nerves. Socrates never claimed he knew anything but himself, and anything outside of himself, should be questioned. So he was a danger to the Greek society for challenging their logic by proving their logic wrong by asking them questions they couldn't answer or answered illogically..
