i bought a 2006 toyota rav 4 4x4 4cyl in the sticker it saids 23 mpg city 28 mpg highway all i'm getting is 17 mpg city the car its 3 months old help please some whats going on ?

I would tell you to go back and argue at the dealer and have him look at what's wrong with the car like others will tell you but I'm not going to do that.

As others have stated,it depends upon your driving habits... frequent stop and go, taking off real quick, and excessive idling will kill fuel milage.

I have also had people who had problems calculating fuel milage as they don't go till the pump clicks meaning full.... write down the gallons it took then divide the miles driven since last fillup by the gallons used... fuel milage only works with fillups and not putting $20 here and $20 there...

The car makers test the mpg on roller wheels not on a highway or roadside. That's why there is a difference. They set the rollers to react like roadways, yet each road is different because of turns. Driving in New York City is not the same as driving in Montana.

The EPA rates the car based on PERFECT conditions (not real conditions). These specifications are ALWAYS better than any driver will actually see. If there is false advertising it isn't from the manufacturer. What these numbers really tell you is how your car will do relative to other cars.

Run it 2,000 miles then switch to sync. motor oil. Its breaking in.
