Are there any other file sharing programs that are safer than using Limewire??? I've used it before but it seems to inevitibely end up slowing my computer down and also some people say that its safe and others say it is'nt. I use it for downloading music but are there safer ways preferably free, or cheap ways to download music that are safe and do not slow your computer down???
Thanks

Limewire is one of the older file dharing programs, most people use torrents these days, same basic principle.
You need a program eg Azeures - bit torrent client
The torrent itself- from a site like www.torrentspy.com
And let it rip, and notice how faster it is than limewire, provided you have enough seed ( number of other users sharing)

All File Sharing Programs come with some sort of Spyware, these are:-

Limewire
BearShare
Kazaa (Stay well clear off this one)
WinMX - WinMX is no longer running
Shareaza

You can keep the spyware at bay if you use a good spyware removal program, I recommend Ad-Aware SE Personal or Pro version.

After you have used and closed down the P2P program, perfrom a spyware scan and remove anything that it finds.

I use DC++ - it's an free open-source, Ad and Spyware-free client, written in C++ for the Direct Connect protocol originally developed by John Hess, that allows you to share files over the internet with other users.

DC++ is much more stable. It wastes less memory, is faster, file size is smaller and long queue won't freeze the whole program.

I've been using Limewire for over a year and never had any problems with it. I have recently been using Isohunt.com (torrent based P2P) and found that great too. The pros for Isohunt, you can download whole albums at once whereas with Limewire you cherry pick the downloads, even for an album. Cons for Isohunt, you don't have a preview, a handy tool, especially for films etc, that you get on Limewire.

I have Norton security and my pc is clean. If your pc is running slow make sure it is clean of spyware etc, and if startup is running slow, ensure only the programmes you want to load, load at start up. Check the list by going to Start, Run, type in "msconfig" and clicking on "start up" tab. Word of caution, there are many essential programmes that run at start up so be careful which ones you uncheck.

Hope this helps :)

Hey,
Here you can find a good place where to download Limewire: http://bit.ly/VMel4B

I love Limewire and I'm an avid user. If I want to download a music file I use Limewire always. you should get limewire too. It's a good peer to peer software if you have to download mp3, movies, videos or file.
Limewire is a safe and reliable program but like all peer to peer program you have to be careful of what you are donwloading from it. You always have to be cautious about what you download.
Don't use torrents/downloads from other sites, they might be backdoored.
I love it!
Cheers.

When I start up my PC the first thing I do is press Ctrl Alt and Delete. Highlight Limewire in the box that appears , then click on End process. Your computer will run much faster.

my friend's had limewire for a while and she says that shes never gotten a virus before...she has no complaints so idk.

if you use windows media player and save the music to your computer that works quite well too...although the selection isnt as good as limewire.

There are all the same even you change your P2P software... It is what you are downloading that makes it dangerous due to the fact that any of the P2P you use coudn't automatically scan any anomalies within the file itself...
