I am almost 16, and my boyfriend is turning 18. By the time his birthday comes around, we will have been going out for 8 months. About how much should I spend on him? Please be reasonable.

And yes I know it's the thought that counts.

Yes, it is the thought that counts! And that's exactly what it should be--it should be something special and symbolic and something that has meaning between the two of you.

Because you are young (and I mean no offense), I was once there myself and we got crazy and ended up breaking up, I would say no more than $50. Maybe something like a silver or gold chain with a pendant that has something inscribed?

I've bought everything from jackets to dinners for my boyfriends but my favorite piece is a locket that probably didn't cost more than 30 dollars from my first boyfriend. I've been married and divorced (not to him!) but you hold on to those special memories and nobody knows what the piece means.

I tended to spend like $30 on an item, and then made him something, I think it meant a little more to him. Maybe decorate a picture frame or something like that that has a pic of the two of you. Think about how much you usually spend on a birthday present, spend the same, but then make him something or treat him to a movie or dinner or something like that.

As I have been reminded many times .. Guys like guy things.
A 30.00 pocket knife would be cool. If he smokes a zippo lighter with some special little something engraved on it.
A CD would be reasonable and he would be sure to like that.
I like to give personalized things. Like a key chain with the date on it, your name and happy birthday too . Like I said though guys like man things.
Hope this was helpful.
