I'm a pretty good student. My GPA is between a B+ and A. I take AP courses Teacher'a are always telling me what a great student I am, but I'm afraid that not having any extracurricular activities isn't going to look very good on my college applications. How many actiivities were you involved in high school?

I played sports and did was a part of 4 different clubs in high school (which seems now like eons ago!). The reason why they want to see extracurricular activities is because they want to see that you are a well-rounded student...that you are personable and have other interests and ambitions outside of school.

It doesn't necessarily have to be activities/sports at school...if you are involved with a local church or synagogue that counts also...if you volunteer for any organization....or if you work. They just want to know that there's more to you than just schoolwork and hanging home watching TV all day :)

Good luck with college apps!

It depends on what school you want to go to. If you want to get into a really elite school, then extra curricular activities can be very important, especially if your grades are close to the cut-off. If you aren't participating in activities, then you better study hard for your ACT to make up for it.

extra currics do matter! i once read that even the most well-rounded student can get rejected from colleges because they dont do any extra activities such as volunteering, sports, clubs, hobbies, etc.

i suggest that you join a club or sport that will help you look scholarly...but show that you take time out for a bit of fun and relaxation too.

im doing one club this year (im a freshman) but im sure im going to get more involved as my high school experience goes on.

It really does depend on the college. Most colleges these days look for the following, and in this order:

a. Grades in each class (not GPA) and a steady progression of classes that get harder and harder.
b. Class rank.
c. College essay.
d. SAT scores.

university is an extra curricular activity in its self! The experience is life changing.
