i'm 13 year old and i have a hero and she's 19. She's really like a sister to me but i'm afarid to tel her that part, but she knows she's my hero. But any who, I have already started my period. But i want to ask her how old she was when she did. I dont wanna sound weird, and it's really hard for me to talk about things like this. But i want to break the wall down about this kind of stuff with her, and be able to talk to her about it. If you know what i mean, because i cant talk to my mom about it. But i was wondering if anyone knew anyways to ask, because i'm pretty nervous. Any experiences?

Maybe you shouldn't ask people close to you when they had their first period. My suggestion: maybe ask a trans gender janitor at your school. They'll probly fill ya in the detail.

Humm ... this is typical female conversation.
A "mentor-like" friend should be totally open to such a question from a girl your age ... in fact, she will probably feel flattered that her advice and opinion matter so much to you.
You seemed confident enough to ask strangers in this forum ... you should find asking your mentor the same question a bit easier.
By the way ... normal menstrual starting ages are between 10 - 14. Give or take a year or two. There is no "right" or "wrong" time for you ... it is when your body is ready.

If this girl is your hero then you shouldnt be afraid to ask things that concern you.
I asked my mom about it when I started mine..
I just said to her " Mom, I was just wondering, how old were you when you started your period".. Dont be scared to speak your mind..If it helps after you ask it you could say " im sorry if this sounds weird" or something like that .. then she would know how you feel. ummmm...one day (maybe if you're on your period) as you and this girl are hanging out, just start talking about how much you dislike being on your period...shes bound to agree with you and theres the informative yet uncomfortable question...just ask her "How old were you when you first started your period?"

a good way would be go to her and say is it normal for me to have my period at this point and time. then you will get on the topic and you will be able to ask her when she got hers

if you want to ask her first make sure that she know that you are about to ask a personal question. If she let you ask it go ahead and ask, if ya are real close she will anser the question with no problem.
