I would go to the library and look through as many different types of magazines as you can. Look in magazines that are aimed at different socio-economic groups, different genders, and different races. This should give you a a few good ideas to go on. The ones I could think about the most are the cell phone ads with teenagers in them, as the teens are always talking too long and self-centered and selfish. I agree that it's the norm, but a generalization to say the least. Good luck!

Whenever it's for birth control it's usually a white woman in her twenties, in perfume ads it's usally white people too, often a couple, they are always thin or even underweight models as if we are all supposed to idealize them. And a major stereotype is that all readers are heterosexual and so the images marketed to them have to be too, gay couples are sometimes shown in tv advertising (either very subtly or stereotypically) but not in mainstream magazine ads. And I was just reading O Magazine (September), there was a Visa ad showing an Asian boy participating in a spelling bee, I think that could be considered stereotyping due to the perception that Asians do better academically than others.

Ms.'s "No Comment" section has caused some readers to convince the companies to pull the ads. Today I saw one for Linux that showed the face of a woman and the caption, "Don't Worry, Our Servers Won't Go Down On You, Either." The best you can do is good old-fashioned grassroots activism. Furthermore, there should be more standards for advertisers.

not sure about on the Internet but from what I've seen in magazine ads, evidently:
everyone who is sexually active is 20-30 years old and exceedingly attractive.
If a man had erectile dysfunction, he's a middle aged white guy
The only people who buy Malt Liquor are black men
All vacations/cruises etc are taken by good looking white people
Every liquor makes every person in the bar a 25 year old hottie including the bar tender, even before drinking it.
If you're not attractive, you can't go in
The only people who get wrinkles and just HAVE to do something about it are women

here's what you could do. go to the grocery store and look through the magazines. oh! orrrr...you can go to the library and look through the periodicals there. you can, in one way or another, discover a stereotype in every ad. or it's really easy just to make one up.
