why did joe mccarthy accuse all those people of communism?

iam comparing mccarthy and abigail williams from the crucible and need to know why he did what he did.

Joe McCarthy was a right wing fanatic who caused plenty of misery among the Hollywood crowd. He accused screenwriters, directors, actors, actresses, and other top level Hollywood bigwigs of belonging to the communist party. It was partly true. There were far left ideology among the Hollywood set that threaten the security of this country. McCarthy taking the lead from the Germans saw how powerful films and images were to control the masses and he feared Hollywood would try to control the masses by left wing propaganda. Some called him crazy or over reacting some called him a patroit.

Today, the media is more powerful than ever, so McCarthy was on the right track. The true sadness of it all, however, many were called communist, who weren't communist, and they lost everything they worked so hard for.

McCarthy was a little known senator before he started to make the communist accusations. He was not a communist and merely exploited the fear in the country at the time that communists were about to invade. Not to bash the current administration but.....you could easily tie in what George W. did to Saddam. The country was scared of terrorism, so George W. took advantage of that and called Saddam (more or less) a terrorist. Our current "war" in Iraq has a lot of similarity to what McCarthy did with the idea of communism.
