The tropics are bounded by the Tropic of Cancer and Tropic of Capricorn which are 23° 26′ 22″ north and south of the Equator respectively. That puts the Equator in the middle of the "tropics" and the area most likely to have tropical rain forests since there are really no seasons there.

because the sun's ray shine directly on the equator during the summer, also known as Summer Solstice. Tropical rain forests tend to be warmer.
