If you burn more calories (exercise) than you take in (eat) you lose weight, if you eat more calories than you burn you gain weight. Just do it sensibly with a decent diet and it'll just be a normal thing for you, don't make it a crazy hard to stick with diet and learn to be active with what you enjoy doing.
