Excerpts from today's news, Sept. 18th:

"The Mujahedeen Shura Council, an umbrella organization that includes al-Qaida in Iraq, vowed to continue its JIHAD AGAINST THE WEST. The group said Muslims would be victorious and addressed the pope as 'the worshipper of the cross,' saying, 'YOU AND THE WEST ARE DOOMED... WE WILL BREAK UP THE CROSS, SPILL THE LIQUOR AND IMPOSE HEAD TAX, THEN THE ONLY THING ACCEPTABLE IS A CONVERSION (to Islam) OR (that you be killed by) THE SWORD.'

"Islam forbids drinking alcohol and REQUIRES NON-MUSLIMS TO PAY A HEAD TAX TO SAFEGUARD THEIR LIVES IF CONQUERED BY MUSLIMS. THEY ARE EXEMPT IF THEY CONVERT TO ISLAM.

"Al-Qaida in Iraq warned on Monday that its WAR AGAINST CHRISTIANITY AND THE WEST WILL GO ON UNTIL ISLAM TAKES OVER THE WORLD, and threatened, 'YOU INFIDELS AND DESPOTS, WE WILL CONTINUE OUR JIHAD AND NEVER STOP UNTIL GOD AVAILS US TO CHOP YOUR NECKS...'"

That sure sounds like a real war to me! What do you think?

Sorry if anyone misunderstood me; I was speaking ironically. What I actually meant was that we ARE in a real war, and here's our enemy!

well, considering all the people that have died during the "war on terror", including soldiers, journalists, and civilians that have been beheaded, I'm pretty sure it is a real war.... in fact, I think that its a world war against terror by the democratic world.

The "War on Terror", as has been carried out by the Bush administration, is as real as the "War on Poverty" or the "War on Drugs" and you see how well those went. These are symbolic wars against ideas. They can have no victory (noted by the lack of victory conditions given by Bush & Co.) and no clear target other than a shadowy group of "others".

Terrorism cannot, in any way, shape or form, be defeated directly through military action, especially not the way we are fighting it. The only way to defeat terrorism is to defeat the ideology behind it, and that can never be done by a gun.

Well, there's more than one form of war. Read Von Clausewitz some time if you don't believe me. The purely defensive actions taken by our country are, however, definable as war; and so is invading two countries in the Middle East.

You are making the terrorists' jobs a whole lot easier. Go for a terrorist walk-in interview I say.
