I don't have any squirrel problem, but I do have a problem with the cats climbing the screens...tear them up in no time. I got some "hardware cloth" to cover the screening. It's a heavy gauge wire mesh, the squares per inch are almost the same as regular screening. It doesn't replace the regular screen, but protects it. You can screw or staple it down on the outside of your house, or if you want it to look better, make a frame for it that you can attach on the outside of the house. 44 cats have not been able to make a dent in this stuff, it's tough! It ought to be able to withstand a squirrel with ease.

I have never heard of this problem, but no doubt it exists. Do they want food, shelter or are they curious? Our squirrels come up to the back door so we will give them some seed. They are afraid to come into the house. But, they do come into the attic for warmth.

The guy next door to me trapped and killed them. I think you could buy a havahart trap which will not harm them and take them to an open space. Another option is that you can buy 50 lbs of birdseed at Wal-Mart and set it out and see if they stop trying to get into your house. If they want warmth, once I built a tiny wooden house and put an electric blanket in it for a pet. Perhaps that would work.

Spray the screen with hot pepper wax. Bonide makes it and probably other companies do too. When they start to gnaw they'll get a bunch of hot pepper which they do not like. You'll have to spray every day to keep it fresh and hot. Once you have broken the habit you can spray once a week for a while in case he tries in the future. After a month or so you can usually quit altogether. You can get the spray at a good lawn & garden center
