As long as he likes to be handled then gently stroking there is fine.
My iguana loved it.

Sure, I've had several iguanas and some are more mild tempered than others, and have no problem letting you pet them wherever you want.
I had a mean, 3 1/2 foot long male once, though, that was real jumpy and didn't like to be touched hardly at all.
They all have different personalities, just like people.

If you don't mind a possible bite, go ahead. And they are called dulaps not beards. I have a beard, it is made of whiskers, Since iguanas have no hair, they have dulaps and they are more prominent in males.

The correct term is DEWLAP!
Yes, you can pet them there only if they allow you. My 5 foot male loves his dewlap scratched but my 5 1/2 foot female would bite ya in a second if you tried that. Basically it all depends on you iguanas temperment.

Iguanas in general aren't too fond of being petted.
Of course, some are different and can behave in ways construed to be semi-affectionate.
But reptiles are so driven by instinct that they don't too much appreciate unneccesary handling. So while I'd advise against petting your iguana too much, it depends on his personal temperament.

if they are very tame, then go for it at your own risk. if you put your finger near an iguanas mouth and startle it, he will bite, and you will be known as the person with 9 fingers. But if you put your finger there really slow, and he sees it, and hes tame, then yes, you can touch his beard(at your own risk)
