We are thankful to be here and would not if it weren't for the Pilgrims from England
Also we are thankful for our freedom which was a thing that many Pilgrims were also seeking when they came here...

Why does America call the IRA terrorists when they are fighting an occupying force that has invaded their land, slaughtered their people, raped, burned and pillaged, locked away their soldiers without even the dignity of a trial, when we kicked the Brits out ourselves? Shouldn't we support our brothers in arms against the tyranny and oppressive rule of a monarchy despised by a sovereign nation that owes the queen nothing? TIOCHFAID AR LA. I am from America, I do mean to be confrontational and I wasn't musing or amused. You should tell your parliament to respect the rights of the Irish to be free and govern themselves. And to go unprovoked into a country and look down the barrel of a gun, because of your royalty, well mate, that makes you the terrorists. And thanksgiving is a celebration about eating a friggin' bird with indians nothing more, nothing less. Now quit worrying about stupid things and go tell your queen to withdraw her troops from Ireland. Thanks

I don't think Thanksgiving is a celebration of English resilience. It is a day to be thankful that we live in a land of plenty (relatively).
Independence Day is also not to celebrate kicking out the English ... it is a day to celebrate our officially deciding to determine our own national destiny.
Hope that hleps.

It's all really related. Our English forefathers left England because of persecution..... We "kicked em out" for the same reason - Taxation with out representation, etc.....It's not that we don't like you guys, it's just we're stubborn and don't like to be told what to do! ;-)

I think every country should have thanksgiving day. One day to give thanks for all our blessing. We too often forget to give thanks to our Lord and the people in our lives that make a difference. But to answer your question, I doubt that the American Thanksgiving now is the same as the thanksgiving of our English forefathers.

We had English here after the revolution too. Thanksgiving was not the celebration of English, it was the giving of Thanks for making it through the harvest.
