I don't know but to me it sounds as if those two ideas are sort of contradicting each other. Free will is the idea that we actually have some say as to what we are and who we will become. Free will says that our future (so as not to say 'destiny') is an actual shadow of our present doings and determinations; what we do today WILL affect our 'tomorrow'. Destiny in the other hand is the idea of a pre-determined future. An idea, or better yet, a 'stone written' future history of a person's life. Any part in time that's part of your future (this could include tomorrow, or even 5 minutes from now) in other words any part in time that hasn't occurred yet, could be said it is part of your destiny. One has no free will if the concept of destiny exists since this says that your life and everything that you are and will ever be or do is already 'written', that every event in someone's life was said to happen that way regardless of your past doings to either prevent or cause something. So this is how i see these two, so my answer to your question will be that 'it depends'. IF you have free will you CAN change your FUTURE, now, if you have a DESTINY then you do NOT have FREE WILL there for you cannot do anything about your future. I hope this helps.

I dont believe in destiny! There is no such think. Its just a place to put all our blames on..about why didnt we get something in life! Nothing is Impossible. And with our inner power or will we can change any present situation! Its all in our hands! Not destiny! I can tell this, as people said I wouldnt make it through school, due to lack of funds. I have made it through med school and into my post grad.. I know! I have been through so much in life. If i were to cling on the so called 'Destiny'.. I would be no where today. But i did take that extra step forward, but in the direction my heart chose!

Complete ignorance over understanding of a term freewill makes our destiny negatively predictable in short run and long one....individually or globally....Even knowing what to expect we continue to pretend that destiny is unpredictable. Knowing what Free Will meant to be will change our destiny entirely.

Free will gives you the freedom to take decisions and perform actions that obviously will change your life. But from another point of view, destiny can be viewed as a pre-determined future, like Greeks used to think, that you are born with a fate and you can not change it, so that theory would nullify the concept of free will (why to take decisions or do whatever we want if we are going to end up the same?). I personally prefer to think that free will will bring me closer to the results I want from life, and therefore create my own destiny.

Destiny is not something that is a fact. I believe it probably has something to do with the "God's plan" for everyone. I think most evidence supports utter chaotic randomness in life, however the beauty of nature is that the randomness we see around us everyone has all somehow become something. You affect your personal "fate or destiny" everyday by the choices you make. Your choices will shape your life forever. I wonder why when something good happens it was fate, but when something bad happens it was bad luck...

There is no such thing as destiny, if there was there wouldn't be free will. If you are truly destined for something and you have no choice where your life will end up, you don't have free will.

Absolutely. We do not have to live and fulfill the expectations of those that would put us down. We can exact revenge, for example, by proving them wrong and making a success of ourselves in whatever we endeavor.

No, we don't have destinies, there is no point to our lives, no overriding purpose to anything.
