I am traveling 1700 mi to be there for the birth of my first grandbaby. I am so very excited. I have already been told I am not to stay at the house. Thank GOd I have family who offered to let me stay with them. I am feeling a little rejected and hurt but life goes on. How much time should I spend at their house visiting the new baby. I have to return home after a few weeks and wont get a chance to see the baby for a while. I am new at this I just dont know what to do!!

Stay as long as you want, after all you can't always see the baby since your going back home so soon. Enjoy your grandbaby as much as possible. Good luck!

I have been in the situation that when I had my baby both my mother and my mother in law came to stay for 4 weeks...is it your son or your daughter that is having the baby...honestly...I loved having my mother there...she helped out where needed and if she did something I didn't like, I told her...but she let me do the mothering thing...my mom in law, however....we are very close but its not the same as your own mother...you don't feel as comfortable telling her things she isn't doing to your liking...and I'm sure you won't be like this...but she took the baby ALL the time...I think my daughter thought she was the mother...anyways...very frustrating...I say spend as much time as you want there...at least they have the nights to themselves...(I didn't...mother in law use to get up for middle of the night feedings and just watch). Oh, and also, if you could...try to make plans for yourself to do while you are there too, just so they don't feel as though they have to find things for you to do or entertain you. Good Luck!!

It all depends on who your child is. Is your daughter the one giving birth. If so, she would probably feel comfortable enough letting you know when she needs space. However, if it is your daughter in law, be sure to take cues from her. Giving birth is a stressful time. Especially for first time parents. I would have loved to have the house to myself when I gave birth but everyone and their brother decided to swing by (all out of town). I spent most of the time crying in the bathroom because everyone told me I was doing something wrong. It was stress full! Good Luck and Congrats. Grandparents are very important to grandchildren!

They probably don't want you staying at the house because with a new infant it's going to be chaos. Stay around until you feel like they have things under control and try to stay out of the way when it feels crazy.

im sure youll get on just fine
good luck
we couldnt manage without our parents help and my children adore their grandparents.

I am so sorry you are in this situation, explain how you feel to the parents and tell them that you arent going to be able to see the baby, mabey they will allow you ample enough time. Good Luck!

Talk to your son and daughter...tell them how you feel. get it sorted out before someone's feelings get hurt. IT happens. My cousins in laws came fro New Zealand...everyone understood,, and gave them more time with baby.

I think you're very sweet. It's wonderful that you're so excited and so sensitive to the new family's needs. You'll do fine. congratulations!
