Assuming you are talking about dart frogs, they get their poison from their diets in the wild. Captive dart frogs don't get poisonous because of the missing poison/bacteria in their diet of crickets and mealworms. I used to have a few, and they weren't poisonous, I could pick them up w/o any danger. This link should help answer your question, and shut up any non-believers.

Venomous means that the animal injects it's venom into the target by means of a fang a sting or something similar It uses this as both a defensive weapon and a way to kill it's prey. Poisonous mean the animal is toxic but doesn't really inject it's venom. Usually the toxins are in it's skin or something like that More of a defense than an offensive weapon. Based on these facts snakes spiders and bees are venomous. They have fangs and or stings to deliver the toxins. Toxic frogs like the poison arrow frogs are poisonous. The poison is on their skin and is mostly for defense against other predators that might want to eat them. Now to answer the original question. Where do the poisonous frogs get their poison. The poison occurs naturally because of the food that the frogs eat. The insects that they eat contain the same toxins. Many people keep poison arrow frogs as pets. Frogs that are captive bred and fed on feeder insects are not as toxic as wild ones because they are not eating the specific types of insects as the wild ones so they are not getting the same benefits of the insects toxins.

Poison dart frogs get thier poison from ants!! The ants eat food that is alkaline based and in turn the frogs eat the ants and turn the alkaline from the ants into thier poison. Poison dart frogs are not poisonous in captivity since they are denied the ants. Even wild caught frogs will lose thier toxicity in a few months of not eating the ants.

Although noone is quite certain, most herpetologists believe there is a type of beetle(s) that the frogs eat in their natural habitat that gives them the chemicals required to produce their poison, but in captivity their diet is not sufficient to create it, making them quite harmless (though i wouldn't advise licking them)
