This totally depends on your scoring system.
In most typical scoring formats, a defense isn't worth taking before the 11th or 12th round of a draft. That should give you an idea of their overall value.
If your waiver wire has serviceable defenses, don't bother trading away depth. You will have injuries and will wish you had them later. Plug in the best one for a given week. Play the matchups.
Plus, people tend to overvalue a name-brand, "great" defense. They'll ask too much for them.

Defense is not as important as many people say it is. Over the course of the season, there is not much difference in fantasy points per game. That being said, don't feel like you have to trade to get Chicago DEF. There are many other decent to good defenses out there. Take San Diego. It went undrafted in my league and is now part of my team. Don't worry that much.

That's not a bad idea, but you won't likely be offering enough to get the Bears defense. Shoot a little lower, like for San Diego or Atlanta. Also, typically there are plenty of highly rated defenses on waivers...this being week three, some defenses no one expected to be strong are having a great season.

I wouldn't trade any of those guys yet. Usually there is one you could pick up as a free agent. If you play in a league where pickups are free like cetain Yahoo! leagues, then you can pick and choose according to matchups. Just look at the upcoming schedule closely before making a pick or trade for a D/ST so you could maximize your usage with that team. You do not want there next two games to be against the Colts and Bengals...then that D/ST is unplayable.

U dont need to trade to get chicagos defense.Theres usually good matchups during each week. The only real diffrence is turnovers and believe me there are good amount of potential defenses that can lead the category in that(cincinatti did it last year) Dont trade Mccallister or Droughns as u need themm for depth(rbs unlike defense get hurt) and I doubt u can get get Bears D for Rhodes or Barlow.

Yes, a good defense can help you win on a weekly basis. But I doubt anyone will give you Chicago for any of those RB's.

Draft RB's in the first two rounds and a QB in the third. Then get a WR or two. After that just pick the best talent left. Good luck!
