- and 65% of those numbers are when women use them PROPERLY.
- and the warning pamphlets in the tampon boxes are made and printed and controlled by the same companies selling these to you.

So why are tampon users so militant and angry about using a pad - are they just dumb and prefer to ignore the facts? Are these women just idiots - or simply unaware of the dangers?

I am sure we'll get lots of angry women posting denials of tampons being harmful in order to justify their continued use.

Are women really preferring the risks of all this vs. using pads?

Sorry but now it is just being silly, you have posted this 6 times, you have gotten answers - you have had women who deny the real risks which is to be expected as we know fine well women who are educated do not use tampons.

From me I have explained in full why this is...and I notice your 'facts' are still seriously lacking - being zealous about this is not going to change anything at all, you don't need to over exaggerate the risks of tampons, and the facts alone speak volumes.

What on earth is the point in posting this over and over, women who are ignorant will remain ignorant at least until you give them a valid reason to explore the issues, and going off on one without the facts just makes the situation WORSE because no woman is going to listen to someone who calls them stupid and does not present facts!

Tampons are not safe to use, but you have not given women reason why they are not safe to use, you have also not presented them with alternatives such as pads, free-flow and menstrual cups - why not? Why is it so important to you to attack these women rather than help educate them?

Why do you post this when you refuse to present honest information or treat women as the victims of ignorance rather than supporters of products that are contributing to such social problems?

I think 1000 deaths/ and or injuries in a year among millions of users each and every month is really very slight. I looked on the CDC and I still can't verify your facts either.
But why do people continue to drive cars if people die in auto accidents and why do people use birth control pills when there is a risk of stroke and blood clots?
Why do people take showers when there is a risk of falling? Why do we use artificial sweeteners when they cause cancer in lab rats?
Why do women have babies because I'm sure more women die during childbirth than from tampon use?
Why don't we all just stay in our houses and bleed on rags because I'm sure that we could dig up some data on pads causing rashes and irritation and then we wouldn't be able to use those either.
There is a risk in almost all that we do and this has got to be the most ridiculous rant I've seen posted on here over and over and over. But then again....I could be one of those ignorant militant women that just doesn't want to face the facts.

There is a time and a place for everything ... and tampons are no exception.

Most female athletes ... me included ... will tell you it is much more "hygienic" to use a tampon then a pad.

Pads have a difficult time staying in place if you are moving and sweating a lot. In fact ... they are a big cause of infections because they hold in moisture and can get smelly. Plus, disposing them is such a pain in the butt!!! Flushing a tampon is so much easier and sanitary.

Also ... depending on what you wear ... a pad can be limiting. Tight-fitting dresses and bathing suits are no place for pads.

Tampons are totally safe to use ... especially if you use them correctly ... i.e. change them at least every 2-3 hours.

I would have to say no woman is so "pro-tampon" that we would get militant about it. It's all a preference of choice. We like to feel like adults and not feel like we are destined to wear "diaper-like" devices for our entire reproductive years.

We woman should always have the choice of "paper or plastic"!!! As with anything we use "down under" we must be smart about it.

Only 267 reports of deaths after billions upon billions of uses. Comfort outweighs the risk. The question is why would you let that many deaths deter you from using tampons. And for some, a tampon is not a choice, some of us have such heavy periods that we wouldn't be able to function without both a tampon AND a pad. More people die from a reaction to food than from TSS, are you also saying we shouldn't eat because it kills people?
EDIT. My daughter is a nurse inf an emergency care centre in a large city, Her centre works with people from all walks of life, but mostly indigents and drug abusers. and the only case of TSS she has even heard of is one woman who thought her vagina was a good place to keep her cocaine

Well I didn't realize the number's are that high. I also have been told that its like one in a million chance for you to get tss. I know I personally use both but I like to use tampons for if I am going out and don't have time to change my pad constantlly. Now that I know these stats I might change what I do because I have been trying to get preggy and haven't so maybe this is why...

I agree, tampons are nothing but toxic trouble, but I still love the convenience of them. I now only buy natural 100% cotton tampons at Trader Joes. Some health food stores and markets also carry them. They do not bleach or put in any toxic substances.

Why also do women keep using deoderant? That product can cause breast cancer! I now only use the crystal deoderant and love it! Have you ever read the warnings on your deoderant?

i am one of those women who have used tampons since my teenage years and am now mid 40's. i do not like pads, they feel uncomfortable, they always ruin my underpants, and have stained my mattress. i prefer tampons because i feel cleaner. have always changed them every 3-4 hours. perhaps i have just been fortunate not to get TSS. i am a nurse and must say that i have never treated anyone for this or have heard of anyone related to some one i know who has died or suffered with this in all of my nursing career. i am not trying to justify my use, it is just that i prefer them. is it any difference to those who smoke or use alcohol? the outcomes are much more serious, the statistics much higher, yet people go on doing those things. there is risk with everything and i guess you just have to make the decision to whether the risk is to high for you or not.

Lots of things come with warnings, we ignore them or do not take them seriously for whatever reaosn,.Why do poeple smoke? why do people do drugs? Tampons are easier, "cleaner" and more comfortable. I guess that is why.

US companies are allowed to use certain bleaching agents in tampons that UK companies are not. the US govt allows tampons to be dangerous to US women.

protest this, women!
