If your connection works at all than you ARE hooked up to a modem of some sort. These days most sites have so much content that if you are using dial up, you will have a slow connection no matter what.
Other types of modems, like Cable modems or DSL modems require special premium services in order to work (i.e. you would need to pay for cable or DSL service to use them).

I'm not sure if I understand your question. Dial up requires a phone modem on your computer. You can't connect your phone line directly to your PC. Most PC's have a built in modem...the plug on the back of your PC.

No, you need to have a modem for it to work at all. Since you are connecting, you already have a modem!
Dialup is super-slow by it's nature. There's nothing that you can do about that.

it has tob e hooked up to a modem to run at all your modem is built in .. theres nothing you can do to speed up your internet except literally moving closer to the isp or getting on a good time
