There is no specific reason. Usually it just happens. Dates are just guesses. If a woman is unsure of the exact date of her cycle , that can cause due dates to be off. That is probably the most common reason.
I was late with all 4 of my kids. Ranging from 5 days -14 days overdue and there was never a good reason. lol

A woman can go overdue on her pregnancy I am guessing is what you are talking about?
1) The gestation date is off by a few days
2) The baby has not dropped
3) The baby is too big to drop into the pelvis therefore breaking the water

Most woman are not over due, a typical pregnacy is bettween 38-42 weeks, it all depends on the womans cycle. Most doctors put your due date at 40 weeks.

The measurement of the baby may be smaller than one would be considered to be at a given point in a pregnancy and so it's not that it is over due but that it is not ready to be born.

Could be a miscalculation of the due date, I never went over so I am not sure. Some babies just need a little help getting out.

All of my children were overdue (7 days, 8 days, and 14 days). I thought that with each pregnancy, the baby would come earlier. My doctor told me that pregnancies tend to follow a pattern. Unless, there is a miscalculation of the due date, babies generally come when they are ready and some need eviction notices (like mine).

Due dates are just an estimate, nothing written in stone. Sometimes the dates of conception are wrong or the baby isn't ready to come out just yet.

It could be possible that your actually date of conception was off and that would be it other then a medical reason but dont fret it dont mean that something is wrong at all . and depending on which pregnancy this might be for you each one is different .

What do you mean by over due?
Babies come when they're ready. There's not a "best before" date stamped on them. 95% of babies are not born on their due date.
