I want it to have real leather and be somewhat believable

If you want to look genuine, go to a uniform store...you can usually find them under "Uniforms" in the yellow pages. Call ahead and see if they will have what you want on hand. If you are looking to be a sexy version...then check Frederick's of Hollywood...they usually offer one every year. As far as a leather duty belt, those can be quite pricey brand new. If you have any law enforcement friends, see if they can check to see if some of the retirees have old gear for sale. Leather can clean up pretty well. The only problem you may encounter is that if you are petitw, you may have to really adjust the loops because duty belts are made to carry a radio, atleast two magazines, a baton, one or two pairs of hancuffs, keys, and of course, a firearm. Good luck...I hope your costume works out great.
