Has Christopher Lee (Saruman in LOTR, Willy Wonka's dad, Dracula, etc.) been knighted yet?

I know that Sir Ian McKellen (Gandalf) has, but what about his better-known screen adversary? And what exactly qualifies a celebrity for a knighthood anyway?

No, he's not dead... yet. He's in his eighties, though, so the Queen had better hurry up.

No he has not, but he has been appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire by Queen Elizabeth II in 2001.
