For some, the confederate flag represents an era in our history of racism and slavery. Many African Americans were treated horribly and discriminated upon during that era and the flag reflects that to some.

With that said, I think ppl need to realize that certain things don't have the same meaning to others as it does to them.

For example, I was born and raised in the South and had a confederate flag in my room as a teenager. It never even crossed my mind that it represented any form of racism.

At the time, it represented being a rebel from uniformity of the system much like the South wanted to break away from the Union and was willing to fight for that cause.

The Confederate flag is a reminder of the years when slavery was commonplace, especially in the south. Imagine if you saw a reminder of something so insulting to you.

Have you ever seen an African American flying this flag? I have lived in Georgia,Arkansas,Tennessee,Florida and have yet to see that. The confederate flag condones the government and the actions of that government of that era. While you may not view it that way it is the way those who were subjected and are still subjected to the injustices view it.
