There are different types of GCSE in IT. I have attempted to list them below with the main examining boards)

GCSE (AQA, OCR, Edexcel)
Applied ICT (Worth 2 GCSE's, AQA, OCR)
CiDA (worth 2 GCSE's, Edexcel)
DiDA (worth 2 GCSE's, Edexcel)
BCS Level 2 (more commonly known as the ECDL Advanced level - worth the same as a B grade at GCSE)

Different schools or colleges offer different GCSE's. Some schools do not offer more than one type of GCSE listed above.

Hope this helps.

For more information check out the exam board websites.

If you don't actually have an IT course at school or college, you can still get marks and accreditation similar to a GCSE for IT skills through subjects like Business Studies.

There are a number of IT exams available at GCSE. Check your local F. E. college and see what they offer or go to the various exam sites such as AQA and see what is on offer.
