For the same reason alligators do not sit on their eggs. It would crush the eggs.

At that time We had worse Global warming and there was no need for them to do so plus they would just crush them if they sat on'em

I would imagine it is because reptiles are cold blooded as birds are warm blooded. Other than for protection, it would serve no incubation purpose.
