Unfortunately, no. It is not just Islam who finds fault with every effort made at peaceful communication. Many overzealous fundamentalist "Christians" do also. People need to realize that the Pope is still a human being, and that he can't always think of everything that might offend someone when he speaks. The Pope made a resonable apology and most intelligent Islamic people accepted it. It is only the people who are so stuck on the letter of the law, as the Scribes, Pharisees, and Saducees were in Jesus day, who attack at every perceived infraction and who don't look at the intent of the person making the statements. They know the letter of the law, but they have forgotten the Spirit of the law.

No. I find the comments made by the Pope to be about as intelligent as most of the comments made by Bush. Inaccurate, untimely, and insensitive. From a simply historical perspective, the reaction is nothing new, but I do not condone the violent reactions.
It is not all of Islam that is reacting this way. The propaganda machine we call the media shows these images of violence, and rather than report accurately, they let the pictures speak for themselves, generalizing and categorizing all of Islam this way.
There are plenty of Christians or non-Islamic followers out there who act violently in the name of their religion. What if the only image we ever saw of Christians was that of people blowing up abortion centers? How fair would that be?

I don't think most hardcore extremist Muslims understand 'irony' or 'humor'. 'How DARE you suggest that we are a violent and barbaric people??? This calls for the murder of nuns and the beheading of your children!!!' Perfectly legitimate reaction.
By the same token, I found a black fly in my Chardonnay and I immediately declared a Jihad against all winged insects.

Oh, that's what he said about Islam! Oh, well then it is ironic and the Islams just haven't noticed that yet. They're basically proving his point which is rather funny.

Funny how they burn effigies, blow up buildings and people, etc. over some stupid comment and some third-rate cartoons. They claim to be a religion of peace, but they show themselves to be the barbarians that everyone thinks they are.
