You can be tracked by your cell phone - thus your travel habits are verifiable.
Every time you use a check to pay for anything, it becomes a matter of permanent record at the bank.
Every time you use your credit card, that is a matter of permanent record with the issuing bank.
Every time you renew your driver's license, car tags, auto insurance, you are giving proof of your location and contact info.
Every time and place you use your debit card, it becomes a matter of permanent record at the bank.
Every time you give out your social security number, your identification is being verified and validated.
The real question is the integrity of the people who have access to all this information. That's the real scary part.
You can almost disappear from view by simply not using your checks or credit cards. Go to a cash only basis. That's not suggesting you close out your bank account. Just withdraw what you want for the week or the month and use cash for your purchaes. You'll save money and make "them" wonder where you went.

there are a few possible answers, but first you have to define your terms.
1. who is the "we" you are referring to?
2. how sure do you have to be in order to KNOW you are being monitored? do you have to have physical evidence or is heresay or common sense enough? what about people with paranoid delusions? they might "know" something that others find preposterous.
3. what constitutes monitoring?
taking the simplest possible answers to those (1. you personally and me personally 2. common sense 3. electronic surveillance of our electronic communications)...
i have to say NO because i worked for a governmental agency and if I am part of WE then WE know we are being monitored.

Any sophisticated computer programme could make a profile of anyone who has answered a few hundred answers on this forum. Add that to the information held on computer by police, banks, insurance companies and even supermarkets and you would have more information on a person than that person's relatives even know. Lets not be naive, I don't mind what they know about me, my conscience is clear.

Sometimes but not all the time by our government. Other than that we try to keep everyone else in line by monitoring each other.
If you don't know this phrase, you may learn it: "Big Brother is Watching You."
