I downloaded the trialare virsion of Norton system works. The program istalled ok, i was prompted to restart and did so. Now my computer wont boot up at all. In the Bios the order of boot is 1.floppy 2 hdd 3. cd. I've changed this order a few times with no luck. I have no boot cd , my computer came loaded with Windows XP so i don't have the disk. i thought it may be trying to boot from my LAN network so i disabled that , and still no luck. i checked the size of my HDD and my capacity is 160 and there's only 136 available so I know my operating system is still there.

Can i make a boot up disk from another computer with XP ? he has no floppy drive can i do it from cd ?

Any other idea's would be greatly appreciated...

And if Safe Mode doesn't work then try "Last Known Good" which attempts to boot your machine with the last known working configuration.

If those fail though and your machine won't boot at all into Windows then you'll need to reformat and reinstall, and for that you *need* a Windows disc or some kind of Restore Disc, you can't do it without one of those. Even if your machine came with Windows already installed, the manufacturer of your computer has to give you at least a restore disc, if not a full copy of Windows. Phone them up and shout at them for selling you a machine with no way of reinstalling the OS, it's their responsibility to sort out as you effectively paid for a license when you bought the machine.

Try safe mode. F8 during the boot, pick "Safe Mode"

That should keep Norton from loading and you might be able to uninstall it.
