have to write a story about someone finding artifacts in the future and needed some ideas.
The artifacts I have chosen for my character to find are a pair of sun glasses, Some colorful artist pens and a bottle of pink hair die. I want this to be in the a wintery future, of a person who is quite alone but is very interested in anthropology, and uses it to keep her self occupied most of the time.
The things I am having most trouble with are setting (like were she’s going to find all these wonderful things and were/what time it’ll take place since I want it to have that wintery, lonely and bitter feel to it ) I also don't know the reason for my characters loneliness, or when she become so fascinate by anthropology.
This assignment is dew TOMORROW so I must get some ideas fast please

First of all, shame on you for waiting till the last minute. I would say in the mid 22nd century, after a nuclear winter due to WW3.
She uncovered a time capsule that was buried a couple of hundred years ago,and she wonders what it was like to use these things........okay take it from there.

Her loneliness could be she is an only child that was raised just by one parent and that parent was killed in an accident so she is all alone now. You can put the time to be maybe 500 years from now. She can be in an old abandoned cabin and while going through each room she finds them. Her career could be an author who writes about the past and that is why she is interested in anthropology. Hope this gives you some ideas.

Sunglasses are found everywhere. How many pairs have you lost? Probably as many as me. Have her walking on an old highway, or investigating a ranch or a police station for that.
Hair dye can be found in an old supermarket, a house, the hairdressers or a house.
Artists pens, also anywhere. The artist who lost them may have been on a mountain or a field sketching away. Or in an apartment building.
Good luck getting it done on time...

Well, this sounds like it could be one of those "post-atomic war" stories where the world was devastated by a huge war. Or perhaps a large meteor hit the earth, creating another ice age and seriously diminishing the world's population.
Another idea, your character could be on an expedition in the frozen tundra thanks to a grant. However, she risks losing all funding unless she can find a substantial link to her ancestrial past.

How about if you have it set in your own home - but due to environmental issues, like pollution, etc., the sun cannot reach the earth's surface frequently, leaving the country in a seemingly perpetual state of winter. The character, searching for some semblance of his actual identity (having fallen into an ice crevasse while searching for food, thus losing his memory), tumbles down a tunnel and into your living room. There he finds a perfectly preserved home (sort of like Pompei in Italy) with pictures of a family, including a teenager who lookings shockingly like himself. .... How's that?

Add on to answer 1 that in this future, there are few people left and no 21st century creature comforts. Your character uses archeology to pass the time and dream about a more comfortable past.

I think all those articles could be found in a suitcase. Perhaps you could do a story on the excavations of a plane wreck or recovery of articles from the Asian Tsunami. Then you could look up locations on line.
