Avon is definitely a company to consider. The story is really inspiring @ http://www.geocities.com/lcming/AVON Read it and you may be inspired to join it. No, I am not Avon distributor. But I am truly inspiried. A good read too.
Just a note. When you are comparing MLM companies compare the compensation plan. The binary ones are better. You have basically 2 "legs". Market Australia is one of the binary companies. All the business volume accrues to those at the top.
As compared to some that requires 12 on the first line. Takes alot of time and the programme is very punishine. Miss a month and more or less you have to start all over again. Although i must say i am rather impress with Nuskin product range. Great quality. Have a research link with Stanford.
For me i will choose Market Australia. or Market America if you are in America. Just becasue you only need to sponsor two distributor. And its Binary. @ http://www.happylittlepixels.unfranchise.com.au

I haven't sold any cosmetics, but if I was going to, I'd choose Arbonne because it's getting very popular & experiencing a lot of growth. It also appeals to a wider age range, while Mary Kay & Avon are seen by some as "old lady stuff." Arbonne is pricier than Avon or Mary Kay, though, and I don't buy into their "mineral oil & petroleum jelly is the devil" philosophies. Show me what it does to skin, because mine isn't a saltine cracker!
I have heard of a line called Beauticontrol also, don't know much about it though.
There are a ton of Mary Kay ladies on here, so I'm sure they'll recruit you hard!

The only horror story is that I bought too much for myself and lost any profit I would have made!!
It depends on your clients. Mary Kay is very upscale. It is good stuff and I love it, but your clients have to have the money. You of course can make a better profit on higher priced items. I have also done Avon and it is much better now that it was. Their anti-aging stuff is rated some of the highest in the country. It has a broader line of products, including clothing and accessories that are quite good. I am not familiar with arbonne. If you get a client base and work it, it can be quite profitable. Like anything else, you have to run it like a business and work it daily. Good luck.

There are tons of MLM companies. I'll put the links to a couple of lists in the source box. I did a lot of research before signing up with Mary Kay. I found it was the best for me in terms of time and money. If you do it right, you can be successful. The trick is to not get caught up in all the hoopla and prizes, unless that is what you are going for. If you stick to knowing and selling your product, without pressure tactics you will do well. Mary Kay allows consultants to buy products at wholesale which is 50% off retail price... so if you sell at suggested retail price, you make 50%. You do not need to carry inventory (I don't). To remain active, you need to purchase $200 in wholesale every three months. If you go inactive, you can easily reactiviate within one year buy spending $200 wholesale again. GL with whatever you decide and do lots of research!

I started with Arbonne about 3 years ago. My really good friend is a National Vice President in her area in Texas. She makes ALOT of money and drives TWO brand new white Mercedes a convertible and a SUV. I don't work the business enough for me to make alot of money but I have witnessed it and its pretty amazing if you do work it. I am more into using the products and if I get enough people along the way to start making money then so be it. Website is www.arbonne.com. The reason I love the products so much is because they are hypoallergenic and 100% organic. I never realized how much crap is in other products we use daily. Petroleum acts like saran wrap on the skin and ages you. Try this: take a saltine craker and put it in a jar (baby food one filled with baby oil) The cracker actually will be preserved FOREVER...the baby oil petrifies the cracker. Whenever I do classes that is one of my little openers. Just start looking at how many products contain pertroleum as there 1st ingredient its pretty sickening. Hope this helps!! :)

I'm enjoying my Mary Kay business and I am friends with an Arbonne consultant and an Avon consultant. We all love the products we sell and are happy with what we chose. The main thing about the "work at home" businesses is the "work"! You have to have classes/parties/selling appointments to make money. You have to recruit to make the big money. If a work at home business is what you are considering, look at them all carefully and chose the one that best suits your needs and your skills. Do you like to cook? Try Pampered Chef or Tastefully Simple. Do you like makeup and skin care? Try MK, Arbonne or Avon. There are lots of opportunities out there. Good Luck choosing the one that is best for you!

I just have to respond to the answer posted by Ice Queen. Mary Kay does NOT test on animals! I have never used Arbonne products so I cannot provide a comparison but I really like the Mary Kay products I am using.

I sell Avon! I have never tried anything else, but I do like avon, its only $10.00to start.your first four campaigns you get 50% of the profits, which is so cool and then it is just on a scale ya know depending on how much you sell! My only problem is that i spend almost all my profits every time! but i like what they sell cause they sell apparel, shoes, toys ,decor, gifts and its pretty cheap!
I don't know if your interested but there are other things like Partylite(candles), Tastefully Simple(food)! if your interested in avon contact me at fendlers99@sbcglobal.net
Good luck to you!

There are some that are better than others but a lot depends on what you are looking for in a business. I have three business that I chose for different reasons. I personally chose Mary Kay because I got products to use for demo, There are also companies with lower start up costs, but you don't get products to demo with them. I signed up for BitterSweet and Sweet Cupcake because of this, mainly because I intended to join these for my own use and mail order from my family back home, therefore it was not as important to have product demos. I think one thing to look for is how much commission you are getting versus what your recrutier gets from your sales. I almost signed up for At Home Amerca and you get only 20% commission, but your recrutier makes 10-15% from yours sales. I personally don't think I should be making that little especially when my recruiter gets almost as much. But also, don't just go by flat commission rates. A company with lower commissions could acutally make a little more profit than one with higher commissions, because of shipping, supplies, credit card processing etc. My best advice to to throughly research the companies that interest you and find out the pro's and con's of each and which has things that are important to you. If you would like any information on any of my three companies I'd be happy to tell you pro's and con's. I promise not to ask you to join...I will just give you any infomation you request
