anyone else get extremely irratated when teachers exploit their authority?!?!!?

they totally take advantage by forcing pupils to do loads of un nesscessary things like punishing the whole class for a few people messing around or whatever! it does my head in!! and like when i come two MINUTES late for class and the teacher freaks out and shouts which is completely un-nesscessary i mean if it were an adult class they wouldnt be like that so why the hell should children get treated like this just cause the teacher is feeling a bit grumpy!?!?!?!

WHY THE HELL SHOULD THEY HAVE THE RIGHT TO TAKE IT OUT ON US?!?!?!

Even though I am old enough to be your teacher....I have put 3 children through school and I couldn't agree with you more....I had many "discussions" with teachers because I didn't agree with their ways of handling situations...many times the punishment did not fit the crime....like 3 days detention for chewing gum....also..many times they treated my children much more harsh than I would...my kids all turned out successful and tried really hard to do what was right....not because I belittled them or punished them harshly...just the opposite...they tried to be good because they knew that was what I expected and they felt bad if they disappointed me....I absolutely loved how you said teachers can "exploit their authority" ....I once told a teacher how she would feel if she came to work every day and had someone riding their *** all day...telling them how to sit...telling them they couldn't go to the bathroom....accusing them of things they didn't do....p.s. don't tell your teacher or mom I said this!!! lmao

Well, when a few people aren't paying attention, and the teacher punishes the whole class, you can bet that the troublemakers won't disturb the class again (or risk angering the entire class!).
This is a technique that the military uses to a great degree of success.
When you are late for class (even two minutes) it shows that you don't respect the teacher, and she has a right to be angry. When I attended paramedic school, we had to write a one page paper for every minute that we were late (can you imagine the size of the paper if you were 30 minutes late?). We all grumbled about it being unfair, but there were very few late people in that class (which is very important, because you really don't want to think that the paramedic responding to your medical emergency missed out on a crucial few minutes during class,do you?)
Paramedic training was an adult class, and in adult classes, when you are late, you may not get yelled at, but you do miss material, and as a result, your grades and your performance suffers (and you may not pass the class - thousands of dollars in wasted tuition that you still have to pay back to the bank).
Teaching really is a thankless profession. It does not pay well, the hours are long, and you wind up with bratty students who don't appreciate what you are trying to teach them. Next time, you see your teacher, thank her or him for what a wonderful job he or she is doing, and I bet that she or he will be a bit less grumpy! If teachers wanted to "take advantage" of someone and piss people off, they'd definitely choose a higher paying job than teaching! Everyone has bad days (I do too) and a little bit of thanks can go a long ways. Just when I get sick of my profession, and think that every patient just wants to take advantage of the system, a patient will say "thank you" and it just makes my day!
Hope this helps!

If one teacher keeps you late, you have the right to ask him or her for an excuse slip for the next class. If there are consistent lineups for the toilet, you need to see the school administration about having more toilets installed as your school may have more students than it can reasonably accommodate.
People messing around in class are not usually a problem in adult classes because the adults are there voluntarily and are paying good money to be there. This isn't true in the public school classes and a few people messing around can totally destroy the class. Sometimes peer pressure is the only effective way to deal with the situation. So don't take that out on the teacher, direct your anger at the source -- your fellow students who are being disrespectful to each and every student in that classroom by their behavior.
Teachers aren't grumpy people. They teach because they want to work with kids, they want to help kids, and they want to show you how things are done, so you can continue your education with a sound grasp of the basics. If they have to fight for attention in a disruptive classroom, all that is thwarted.
Give the teachers a break, and see what happens when the class maintains order all by itself.

Just like you have bad days; teachers also have bad days. If you have one having bad life, than try and stay cool and don't make thing worse. I hated group punishments. Your teacher maybe trying to get peer pressure to help. Think a class meeting is more effective unless there are more blank blank kids than good ones. Are you part of the solution or problem. Imagine trying to manage bunch of pain in the butt kids. Reaction to you being late in part comes from the need to keep order. Sounds like over reaction, but hard to tell without knowing all that was going on at the time.

I love how so many of you think teachers are just evil people out to make your life miserable. Not all teachers have horrible lives. If the whole class was punished then it probably means that there were too many of you acting out to punish each of you individually. As for you being late, you should expect to get in trouble. You are expected to be there at a certain time so be there. Teachers are there because they want to it's not something they just fell into they have to go through years of college and testing in order to teach. Also a teachers job isn't done when you leave the class, they have to grade all your papers and be prepared for the next day. They usually have to turn in lesson plans weekly to administrators. It's not an easy job especially with brats like you thinking that the whole world revolves around you.You should be a little more grateful to your teachers for all they do.

It's funny - I look at it as "Why do students feel the need to take their attitude out on teachers?"

I don't exploit my authority at all. I have a set of guidelines in my class, and the expectation is that my students follow them. I get (justifiably) angry if they don't.

If you were late for class, the teacher has every right to be upset with you.

As for your follow-up, if a teacher makes you late, you get a note from that teacher. If you're taking a bathroom break, you need to make sure it's in YOUR time, not during a lesson. COmmon sense prevails.

Give up the "woe is me" crap. It's a cliché and quite tedious.

Your teachers are union puppets. They've lost their passion to mold young minds and have become the intolerant creatures that they pontificate against.

They are however due the professional courtesy of your being on time. If it were your boyfriend, and you only had a short while to spend with him, you would want him to be on time right? These people live off of your parents' tax dollars. At least get their money's worth.

Mass punishment is an attempt to incite peer pressure. Another hypocritical gesture - no? Don't they tell you to be yourself? Then they should discipline the offender, not the society.

And why do you think you are above the rules? Just imagine the chaos if every kid chose to ignore the rules. You must learn that there are consequences for your bad behavior. The consequences are not suppose to make you happy or meant for you to like them. My only advice is to start following the rules and you'll have nothing to complain about!

they dont have that authority. however perhaps they are just lazy, thinking it will be easyier to be communist (punishing everybody) for a individuals mistakes. perhaps the individual in trouble try very hard to reason with the teacher. (if that dont work beat them but you dont want to do that unless you have a good lawyer) the school system needs something that you can report the teachers and they get their pay slashed for a pre-determined amount of time

If you are a child, you shouldn't be cussing. If you were late to class by more than seconds, you deserved it! Guess teachers should wait around until lazy kids grace them with their presence?
