How bout there is no future or past, just the here and now. How can the future be later? We all live NOW, same with the past. So really, none of us has a future. Expand that and blow your mind.

i dont get it
there is such thing as the present, it is just a very thin line dividing past and future
yesterday is the past, tomorrow is the future
the present is barely that thick, it is only a tiny piece of time
like you can affect the future in seconds and minutes, thats how thin the line is

time has always been conveyed as having past present and future, every individual has a preference of percieving time, many are in the here and now, others like me prefer to plan for the future, and historians or usually the ones who always stress history repeats like to live in the past.
"If there is no present then how can anything happen. There must surely be an instant (the tiniest possible length of time) where stuff happens that can truly be called the 'present'."
I like to view time as ever flowing.....you can't stop it.... things happen as it flows with time.
Perhaps the perception of the "Present" is merely the laps of time it takes to percieve through your sensory experiences of the future becoming past and storing that memory into your brains.
Being the freshest and newest memories you store I guess you could say you could call that the present..

It's pretty much what I believe that the past is a memory and the present is fleeting and waits for no one, while the future is still a figment of our imagination which holds no promises to anyone.
I like the idea that is a constantly advancing line... reminds me of the bus driver who was arguing with me about 12pm and 12am... he finally agreed with me when I told him that a police officer once gave me a ticket because a street parking sign indicated "No parking before 12am" and I took it to court and won; the judge then ordered that the signs be removed and correct ones installed to reflect "12 noon."

Yes , from our perspective, human perspective, it would be fine line or even pin point. It had been stated in a Bible...Needle eye, in relation with a camel, remember? But from perspective of whole existence which we call Life at all means. which existing only Now, not yesterday or tomorrow, past and a future is invisible nothing. And if we find ourseves kind of separated from Life so we may see only needle eye and if we are identical with Life , then needle eye will represent vast universe called Paradise.

its an interesting idea. but likewhatu.. has a good point. it could also be said that only the present is real. the future and past are only ideas. everything you experience is experienced in the present.

I would think that this 'line' you refer to is the ever fleeting 'present' which we try to balance on as inertia pushes it forward
...or should I say round and round the spiral

there is truth in what you say, but your constantly advancing line needs a name, ahhh, we'll call it, the present.
