Conservatives are very much like the Islamic conservative terrorists, they want to impose their belief on the rest of us.

Because it gets them what they want.

The conservative platform is about stability, and conformity, and structure and resistance to change. That's what 'conservative' means. And that's not inherently a bad thing. Stability can be good.

But they see the only way to ensure stability and conformity is to remove choices from people, and force everyone to adopt a particular moral (and often religious) perspective. Because anything that is different they see as a threat to their personal goals.

Put another way, anyone who wants to do something differently is one more variable that makes them uncomfortable. So, by controlling choices, and ensuring that only traditional and majority values are allowed to exist, they can spend less effort holding to those values themself, because the govt will be enforcing them.

You mean like labelling music with "bad" content? Or trying to ban rock and rap bands like Tipper Gore (Al Gore's wife) tried to do in the 1980's?

Legislating morality is a liberal position (i.e. see the morality behind the invention of the "hate crime" or "prohibition")

Conservatives want less regulation, get a clue.

It's odd that Conservatives are somewhat lacking in morality and they want to legislate it? They need to control their ow morality first.

You can't put that solely on conservatives, the government in general does that to appease the people who elect them. White Christians. That's how they keep getting elected too.

Why do liberals try to legislate morality?

Everyone has their own opinion about morality. To me, it is immoral to legislate my retirement. Liberals force me, against my will, to participate in a program (social security) I have no desire to participate in.

Liberals are currently trying to force everyone to accept the morality of homosexuality.

Both sides do it. Looking in the mirror can be painful if you can't accept the truth.

Depends on the kind of conservative you are. Old school conservatives think it's wrong and pointless, NeoConservatives don't care, new conservatives (who joined with or are from the disaffected evangelist movement) know it keeps them getting elected because otherwise they wouldn't have the votes.

I beg to differ. If the conservatives of the world weren't pushing for morals then who would. We would need another flood to wipe all the immorality away again!
