How do you define an "excellent company"? If you are looking for an excellent company to invest in, you have to remember that companies that are widely admired are rarely good long-term investments, because they tend to be fairly valued or even overvalued.

More specifically, Microsoft has been oscillating between $22 and $30 a share for almost five years now. Google reached maximum price in January and has been trending down since. Dell has been on the down trend since mid-2005, IBM, since the end of 2004...

They all have had at times great leaders. The people who created most of these companies have had both strategic vision of where the market is going, and the corporate management proficiency to get there. They also have all taken a lot of risk and been rewarded. there are many others who have taken the risk and failed. We just don't here about them often. Look up Long Term Capitol Management. Smart people, just didn't predict the fall of the soviet union.

There is no doubt, that promoters of these companies had a vision, and could form a team, of professionals, who could en- cash the opportunities and market requirement. Technological Advancement, in the recent past has resulted into use of their product and services, much more conveniently and economically.

Over all their exponential growth is a result of number of issues resolved correctly and timely, keeping pace with customers requirement, employees orientation, up gradation, etc. make them well known, world wide, that you and me rate them as 'top excellent companies'.
