Yes.

With technology today, there is no reason for the electoral college any longer. It was designed during the days of lack of transportation, etc... The concept was to elect representatives that could travel and obtain the information that other ppl couldn't.

Today with television and the internet bringing information, news and current events into our livingrooms every night, the electoral college is obsolete.

And yes it is incredibly racist. That started with the redistricting during the Jim Crow era and has been revamped recently with the Republican party redesigning some districts creating additional Republican seats.

Tom Delay recently was indicted for some underhandedness involving that redistricting in Texas.

Btw, the Supreme Court ruled last June that Texas had violated the constitution by basing some of that redistricting on race.

No. The electoral college is set up by the Constitution to ensure that large population centers do not completely overwhelm less populace states. That's because each state gets 2 electoral votes, plus the ones based on population.

However, as currently implemented by the states (all-or-nothing), it does effectively guarantee an limited two-party system, since third-party candidates cannot get enough votes in multiple states to win the majority of electoral ballots, even if the third-party candidate was the overall electoral or popular winner.

But that's a political issue, not an ethnic or racial one.

It's set up to give the small states more say in the voting process. I really don't see where on Earth you get racism out of it.

What are you talking about. It was set up by the Constitution. Blacks were slaves then and couldn't vote.

That is the Republican goal, and was Tom DeLay's primary party responsibility.
