In a nutshell: psychology as you have found in your definition, is a two part word..."Psych" refers to the mind and "ology" refers to the "study of"..therefore your answer is correct. Many people go to psychologists who can help them understand their thought patterns and how they can solve problems in a healthy way! For example; if I am depressed, I may see a psychologist to help me with the thoughts I am having. S/he may be able to help me discover why I am feeling this way and what types of things I may be telling myself that may be attributing (or causing) me to think this way! Great!

Yep, cognitive psychology...although the definition of psychology is the scientific study of behavior and mental processes. You are just asking about mental processes, which in this case is referring to cognitive psych.

Interesting though that mental processes are the tough part of psychology to study because we cannot observe them...we can only observe the behaviors that are attached to them (i.e. scratching your head and thinking).
