Any quote, from any leader, can be taken out of context and used as fuel on the fires of hatred. What people should've paid more attention to was what the Pope said right after the comments that angered so many....

"Faith is born of the soul, not the body. Whoever would lead someone to faith needs the ability to speak well and to reason properly, without violence and threats... To convince a reasonable soul, one does not need a strong arm, or weapons of any kind, or any other means of threatening a person with death...".

It's a shame that we cannot resort in a peaceful argument with only using words, why does it have to resort to violence. It seems like this the people on this website is more considerate toward the Muslims feelings getting hurt, then the violence and new threats against the Pope. I will never chat on this yahoo.com again, nobody here can get over the Pope's comments, 4 days ago, apologies later and explanation that it was a quote. Get over it, and worry now about the new jihad on the west terror threat - thats what you all need to be concerned with.

There are some segments of society that spend all their time looking for an excuse to cause violence. To get so upset over a quote is not really an excuse for the majority of people. to get in a rage but if you are looking for an excuse I suppose that one will do until another one comes along. Don't forget the cartoons a while ago. I can hardly wait until the next one comes along these people should find something better to do with their time.

Why shouldn't he use it, its called freedom of speak everyone is entitled to it even the Pope, he didn't even write it. It was a centuries old transcript. Everyone makes mistakes but its because of all the crap that's going on that everyone is making a big deal of it. I'm sick and tired of people being attacked for saying things the Muslims don't like. Whats with all this stupid political correctness, no more ba ba black sheep as someone finds it offensive, give me a break. Half the time i feel like I'm being persecuted for being white. The Muslims are supposed to be peaceful and what have you, then why am i constantly seeing them burning effigies of people they don't like. They don't rule your country so deal with it. I don't care if anyone thinks I'm being mean or nasty, why? simple, freedom of speak, I'll say what i like. That's until someone comes and locks me up, which will probably be the next thing to happen to people if they say anything they shouldn't.

The Pope did nothing wrong. Again it is the Muslims who are over reacting as they did to the Danish cartoon. It would seem that they are free to say and do whatever they want (Like hold a cartoon contest lampooning the holocaust) but we in the West can never criticize them.
The real mystery is why the West puts up with anything from them. 25 years ago a radical Muslim shot Pope JPII and we didn't riot, burn mosques or shoot their women in the back. Enough is enough I say. It's time to put Islam in her place (Under piles of rubble!)

Violence is never the answer...

But violence is human nature itself...

Since violence is to be the answer, then the Pope offended people with his comments, and no amount of retraction or apology will work.

Now, is their violent response justified? I personally do not think so, but there are many others out there that do think so. It is just a different perspecitve and view point than mine, but enough so that the outcome of their feelings and emotions is totally different.

Remember - mankind's greatest virtue is the ability of independant thought.

The radical muslims are dragging the muslim religion through the mud (as usual with their reactions), and I am sure the rest of the muslim community is disgraced by their actions/words. However, the same goes for the Pope... he at the very least is showing that he has little tact, and needs to think more before he speaks.

I don't think the Pope needs to apologize for anything? I think these Muslim's rioting should be stopped by the force of their own people. They look like a bunch of idiots!

If the Pope felt he should utilize the "quote" in his message to his following, he must have felt just cause and should not have to defend himself to anyone.

Look at how these people are acting - something like the quote itself?!

He just told the truth. It angers man when what he wants to believe is being taken away and the anger over the Pope's words is expected. The Pope needs to stand up for God's law and not just that of man. Christianity and Jesus Christ is pre-MUSLIM era and in the Bible we are warned against false religions and those that kill in terror but we want to teach our teachings in 2006 and not of a world 2000 past. Humanity is going to forget God and God's people are going to be FEW. These are those who keep his words and live by their principles. To attack Christianity is wrong! God preserves life and continues it as well is founded on ethics, moral, decency, and honor. Suicide is being used as a means of crossover for these people and the one's teaching this are responsible for millions of deaths by saying "It's ok to die this way". The Pope had all RIGHTS to say what he said and if it weren't the Pope's words then they should have been.
