This is very difficult because of the scaling problem. Anytime you try to simulate large scale phenomena in the lab, you have a problem with similitude. The air molecules remain the same size, but the lab tornado is at least 2 orders of magnitude (100 X) smaller than the actual tornado. Even if you can create the wind shear environment which is present for some but not nearly all tornadoes and the process for which the vortex is formed by tilting and convergence, the viscous force is relatively much greater in the lab - thus the effects of friction are not simulated well. Neither can updrafts or their acceleration (which is most likely the primary factor in some tornadoes as it is for dust devils) be simulated well if at all, nor accelerating downdrafts next to them from heavy rain and its evaporation. Again, a scaling problem - in the lab the acceleration must occur over maybe 10 meters, in the atmosphere over maybe 2000 meters.

That is one way to get a tornado, and as mentioned if the vortex is then stretched vertically convergence causes its spin to increase. Hopefully it can be seen how difficult it would be to realistically simulate all aspects of tornado formation in the lab.

dont think anyone has come up with actual conditions to produce an actual tornado..of course they can play with air vortices all they want, but not making one au natural
