When i asked my ex for her proper name, he told me it was none of my business. The kids only know her first name. I have always thought it sloppy to send a , "hey you, thanks for the gift" kind of note. but if he wont tell me her last name, should i send an improperly addressed thank you note? or should i just let a verbal thanks stand.

First of all, I want to commend you on your kindness. I don't know your situation with your ex-husband, but it appears that you are taking the higher ground and doing what you believe is best for you and your children. Your son is learning a valuable lesson of kindness. Secondly, I do think it is OK to send an improperly addressed thank you note. If you are sending thank-you's to other people who gave your son a gift then it is certainly OK to send her one as well. Again, I commend you on your attitude toward this whole situation. All of us divorcees could learn something from you!

Yes, I would definitely She send a Thank You note even if it just has her first name on it and I would probably let her know that you asked your ex for her last name so you could send it the proper way but he told me it was none of my business.

You should see that your son sends an appropriate card, not you. Have him address it with whatever name he calls the woman. A bike is an expensive gift. It would be nice if gave her a quick call to say "thank you" verbally and then follow up with the card.

If you have thanked her verbally, I would let that stand. You could send her an informal note - not a card. But I would leave it if you have already thanked her. Your ex obviously doesn't want you to communicate with this woman so let it go. You don't want to get into a hornet's nest.

A verbal acknowledgment would be sufficient, considering the circumstances. It was thought of her to send your son this bike. I get the feeling that your husband is somehow behind this. For know let the boy enjoy!!!

First off, it is your business if she's someone with whom your children are spending time and receiving gifts! Tell your ex-husband that anything regarding your child IS your business!

I wouldn't worry with a thank you note, let your husband handle the thank yous.

Awww that is sad that you had a divorce:( Thoughtful of you to send the letter though. Maybe send it to the both of them that way you have a first and last name. Like your husbands first name and c/o her...

technically YOU should not be the one sending the thank you. Your son should be. However in this case a verbal thank you is good enough.

I think it means so much more when you send it in a note. If she is really nasty to you i'd think twice..but hey two wrongs don't make a right so send her the note.
