Because originally you used to stand up in a stand but after the Hillsborough Distaster, the health and safety people decided it was too dangerous and the rules were changed for Premiership clubs - possibly League 1 teams too, although I'm not positive about that. So the term stands still applies, that's why. Good question tho. :)
