my son watches barney and teletubbies..... i know that they are people in costumes, i think... but how do their mouths move?

okay. obviously none of you have ever seen the show...
they are NOT like puppets. the heads are HUGE

Mouths are operated by off camera puppeteers by remote. Each Teletubbi has a team of people who are called puppeteers(even though this form of puppetry is advanced) who insure their mouths move, eyes blink ect.

I know for the show Fraggle Rock they used remote controls, controlled by men who sat at a table off to the side, to move the mouth and eyes. Not for the Fraggles themsevles, but for the ogre things that always chased them. That was a long time ago though, but I'd assume it's probably about the same way.

Actually, this isn't a dumb question at all. How the hell DO they move???
They're not puppets, there are people inside...Maybe there is some button on the inside of the hand part? I have no earthly idea!

Do both arms move on these guys? If so, radio controls from off-stage. If not, the arm not moving is the arm that is making the mouth work

There is an attachment inside the head that works with the actor's jaw. It moves when s/he moves their mouth.

my guess is if i spell it right anamtronic's the mouth is operated by remote control by someone sitting out of camera view
